Project Background
Revolutionizing Retail Profitability
SkuMax is the first profit-decay application designed for retail stores, enabling store owners and managers to gain deeper insights into how item display costs impact overall profitability. By tracking item profitability and store-wide financial trends over time, SkuMax equips retailers with the necessary data to make informed and timely inventory decisions.
Expanding Square Integration for Retailers
With an initial focus on Square’s ecosystem, which supports over 2 million retail users, SkuMax sought to refine and expand its integration capabilities while laying the groundwork for future compatibility with additional inventory platforms.
Ensuring Seamless Data Synchronization
To achieve this, SkuMax required a seamless and real-time integration with Square, ensuring that inventory data mirrored the user’s Square account instantaneously. Since Square does not store item costs, the project also necessitated the development of a robust profit calculation mechanism based on markup percentages. Additionally, the system needed an efficient import functionality, allowing users to upload inventory data directly to SkuMax. Given the complexity of the implementation, Codemap Agency was brought on board to develop a scalable, reliable, and high-performance solution tailored to SkuMax’s requirements.
Our Approach
Phase 1: Strengthening the Square Integration
Our team structured the project into three key phases, each focusing on critical aspects of the SkuMax platform. The first phase concentrated on upgrading the Square integration and implementing a Xano-powered backend. This included designing a comprehensive database schema, integrating API calls to retrieve inventory data, and implementing workflows to handle large-scale imports. The team also placed a strong emphasis on error handling, ensuring data integrity throughout the process.
Phase 2: Enhancing User Experience & Profit Calculations
In the second phase, the focus shifted to enhancing the user experience and refining the profit calculation model. We developed an intuitive interface allowing users to define markup percentages, which, in turn, enabled accurate profit estimations based on sales price and inventory costs. Additional API enhancements were introduced to fetch supplementary inventory parameters, further enriching the data available to users. Real-time webhook updates were also implemented, ensuring inventory synchronization between Square and SkuMax without manual intervention.
Phase 3: Optimizing Data Imports & Duplication Handling
The final phase centered on data import functionalities and duplication handling. Our team built a CSV and Excel import tool, empowering users to migrate inventory data effortlessly. Special attention was given to preventing duplicate entries and optimizing the workflow for seamless onboarding. By the end of this phase, SkuMax had evolved into a fully operational inventory management solution capable of handling live profit decay calculations with precision and efficiency.
The Results
Seamless Square Integration & Scalable Performance
The transformation of SkuMax from a proof of concept to a fully functional, scalable application marked a significant milestone for the project. With our team’s expertise, the app seamlessly integrated with Square, providing users with real-time inventory tracking and profitability insights. The robust backend powered by Xano ensured high-performance data processing, enabling SkuMax to handle large inventory datasets without performance bottlenecks.
Future-Ready Architecture Validated by Early Adopters
Beta testing demonstrated the effectiveness of the app’s core functionalities, with early adopters praising its real-time profit tracking, accurate net profit calculations, and seamless synchronization with Square. The time zone-based adjustments further enhanced usability, ensuring that inventory metrics reflected accurate daily figures regardless of user location. Additionally, the architecture developed by our team positioned SkuMax for future growth, with built-in flexibility to accommodate AI-driven insights, gamification elements, and integrations with additional inventory management platforms.
