Project Background
Enhancing Scalability and User Experience
RV Overnights is a tech company serving the camping market, offering a marketplace application that connects RV travelers with small businesses (hosts) in the United States. The company facilitates RVers in finding unique locations for overnight stays, while enabling hosts to gain new customers. However, the platform was facing performance issues, including bugs, scalability concerns, and poor integration, leading to a need for significant improvements.
Rebuilding the App for Stability and Performance
To address these challenges, RV Overnights sought Codemap Agency’s expertise in rebuilding their app, improving its features, and ensuring long-term stability. The primary objectives included redesigning the application based on best practices, implementing new features like payment APIs, enhancing performance, and integrating new services such as Intercom.
Advancing Mapping and Vendor Capabilities
Another major challenge was the platform’s existing map and vendor listing functionalities. The current map couldn’t support the growing data demands, which slowed down the app. RV Overnights also sought to expand its offerings to vendors, providing exposure to hosts and members while offering additional resources. Codemap was tasked with upgrading the map, integrating route planning features, and enhancing the vendor portal.
Our Approach
Phase 1: Platform Reconstruction and Feature Redesign
We began by addressing critical bugs, including issues with the host onboarding process and Google SSO. Simultaneously, the platform was redesigned in line with the team’s shared Figma designs. This phase also involved building and integrating essential new features, such as payment APIs, Intercom integration, and a more user-friendly interface. Our team worked to ensure that the application’s architecture was robust and scalable to support future growth.
Phase 2: Map Enhancement and Functionality Expansion
Given the performance limitations of the previous map plugin, we decided to implement a new map solution using MapBox. This upgrade included the ability to handle more layers of data, such as weather and telecommunications networks, and offered users control over which layers to display. The team also incorporated a route planning feature that enabled members to plan their journeys with real-time data on nearby pins and locations.
Phase 3: Vendor Portal Development and UI/UX Optimization
To support RV Overnights' new business model, our team designed and developed a comprehensive vendor portal. This included a landing page for vendors to sign up and access subscription plans, along with a dashboard that allowed vendors to manage their profiles, track engagement, and handle billing. On the user side, the platform was updated with a vendor listing feature, ensuring that hosts and members could filter and view vendor profiles.
The Results
A Robust and Scalable Platform
By the end of the project, RV Overnights had successfully rebuilt its platform into a fully functioning, scalable solution. The platform now supports a growing number of hosts and users, with a streamlined booking system and improved performance. Codemap's efforts ensured the app could handle high traffic and larger data sets without compromising speed.
Map and Route Planning Enhancements
The upgraded MapBox map now supports the display of multiple data layers, a feature that allows users to customize their viewing experience. The route planning functionality offers RV travelers a smoother, more intuitive journey-planning experience, with real-time updates on nearby locations and amenities. This new map solution solved the previous issues related to scalability and performance.
Vendor Portal Integration
The introduction of the vendor portal has been a significant business expansion for RV Overnights. Vendors can now easily manage their profiles and track their interactions with hosts and members. The integrated billing system, along with affiliate link tracking and the ability to offer discount codes, adds value for vendors and enhances the overall user experience for RV travelers and hosts.
