Our client set out to create an innovative two-sided recruitment marketplace that streamlines hiring for startups while unlocking new earning opportunities for recruiters. The goal was to provide companies with instant access to recruiters who specialize in their industries and roles—whether internal, external, or fractional—ensuring they can meet all hiring needs in one place.
Maximizing Opportunities for Recruiters
Recruiters, in turn, would benefit from a system where they could instantly access hundreds of open roles, submit candidates, and earn commissions on successful placements—eliminating the traditional barriers of business development and limited job opportunities. By facilitating seamless connections, Onyx aimed to redefine how businesses and recruiters collaborate.
Future-Proofing the Platform
Beyond the MVP launch, our client sought ongoing maintenance and upgrades to align with its evolving product roadmap. One of the key future enhancements included an embedded marketplace feature, further expanding recruiter-client interactions and streamlining the hiring process.
Our Approach
Agile and Iterative Development

- Scope Validation & Knowledge Transfer: Establishing a clear project plan and roadmap in Trello, ensuring alignment on specifications.
- UI/UX Design: Creating intuitive Figma-based designs to provide a seamless marketplace experience for both companies and recruiters.
- Development: Implementing the marketplace using Bubble.io for both front-end and back-end functionalities, ensuring scalability and efficiency.
- Quality Assurance & Deployment: Conducting rigorous testing before launching the MVP into production.
Technology and Future Scalability
The MVP was built using Bubble.io for rapid deployment while allowing for seamless scaling. Our agency recommended integrating a third-party backend, such as Xano, for long-term performance optimization. Additionally, key marketplace functionalities, such as recruiter-client matching, approval processes, and role-tracking, were incorporated to enhance usability.
Expanding the Embedded Marketplace
As part of a planned upgrade, our team designed an embedded marketplace allowing companies to create recruiter requests. This included:
- Recruiter Profile Enhancements: Recruiters could expand their profiles for additional approval.
- Advanced Search & Filtering: Clients could search and filter recruiters based on specific needs.
- Admin-Managed Process: All interactions between clients and recruiters were handled by Onyx to retain full control over communication and billing.
- Unified UI with Filtering Options: Instead of separating the contingency and embedded recruiter platforms, a filtering system was implemented, optimizing usability and reducing complexity.
